COVID19 Vaccine Update at Baker Institute Event & The Immunization Partnership Webinar.

From Rice University's Baker Institute For Public Policy:

As governments battle with mitigating the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, scientists around the world are working to develop a vaccine to help societies achieve the “herd immunity” necessary to return to normal social life. Despite all the attention and resources being put into researching the Covid-19 virus, experts warn that a vaccine is still about a year away.

At this webinar, Peter Hotez, fellow in disease and poverty, and Rekha Lakshmanan, contributing expert for the Center for Health and Biosciences and director of public policy at The Immunization Partnership in Houston, discussed the steps involved in developing an adequate, safe and effective vaccine; the current vaccine candidates in clinical trials; and why vaccines are an important tool in pandemic preparedness and response. The discussion was moderated by Kirstin Matthews, fellow in science and technology policy.
